Whenever Taylor Swift appears with a man, she is rumored to have slept with that person. A series of articles appear with the content advising men not to approach Taylor because she “writes songs about him after a breakup”.

Taylor Swift is one of the most successful music artists today. Famous since the age of 16, the singer has had a long list of famous and handsome lovers. For this reason, she has become a thorn in the public’s side.

Taylor builds her image as a musician and always performs her own songs, most of which are about her own life. Love stories are a great source of inspiration for many of her hits. Even after breaking up, Taylor still uses them as material to write music. This action has caused the female singer to receive a lot of criticism. A part of the public thinks that she dates to get inspiration to write music, and when she is no longer of use, she “throws away” her boyfriend and finds a new partner.

Especially in 2012, after having 5 public relationships in 6 years, Taylor Swift started dating One Direction member Harry Styles. Their relationship caused a lot of controversy. Since then, Taylor Swift has become the target of attacks from netizens because they feel that she “changes lovers like changing clothes”. Slut-shaming jokes aimed directly at Taylor became viral on social networks.

Whenever Taylor Swift appears with a man, she is rumored to have slept with that person. A series of articles appear with the content advising men not to approach Taylor because she will “write songs about him after the breakup”. In a TV show in 2013, Taylor cried when the host mocked her about dating.

The couple dated in late 2012 and this was when Taylor received a lot of criticism.

After that terrible time, Taylor was not seen dating for many years. She often hung out with her female friends, including model Karlie Kloss, who was rumored to be Taylor’s lesbian lover. A decade later, on the occasion of the release of the re-recorded album 1989 (Taylor’s Version), Taylor Swift opened up about that difficult time.

“When I was 24, I sat in my dressing room backstage at a London show, filled with anticipation. Every backing singer and band member had gathered in a circle around me. The scissors started moving and I watched in the mirror as my long curls fell in clumps to the floor.

I remember wearing a striped shirt, smiling shyly as my staff and friends cheered on my new hairstyle. Cutting my hair was a normal thing that everyone did, but I had a secret. For me, it was not just a change of hairstyle. For me, it was a determination to completely change myself at the age of 24.

How can a girl reinvent herself? You must be wondering? For me, it’s in any way they want. Like music taste, place to live, style, motivation and I did these things happily.

The risks of trying pop music while still showing the sensibilities of the previous album? I want to develop it further. The feeling of freedom when traveling to noisy big cities? I want to live there. The people who started insulting me in different ways just for dating like a normal young woman? I want them to be quiet.

As you may know, I have been the target of slut-shaming for years. The intensity and cruelty at the time would be condemnable today. The off-color jokes about the number of boyfriends I had. The trivialization of my writing as if it were the work of a famous man-hunter. I had to make it all stop because it was starting to hurt.

I realized that for me, there was no such thing as normal dating. Or even just hanging out with guys in a clean way. If I was seen with a guy, people would assume I had slept with him.

So I swore I would never go out with a guy again. I stopped dating, flirting, or anything that could be used against me. Because, I was living in a society that believed in protecting women’s rights but insisted on treating me with the harsh moral prejudices of the Victorian era hundreds of years ago.

Being a very optimistic person, I thought I could handle this if I changed my behavior. I took a break from dating and decided to focus on myself, my music, my growth, and my friendships with girls. I thought if I only hung out with girls, people wouldn’t be able to make headlines and sexualize it. But I learned that they can and they will.

However, I didn’t let this affect me because I had a plan in mind and believed in it. I decided to buy my own apartment in New York and from there, new melodies appeared in my imagination.

My collaborators, Max Martin and Shellback, were always willing to help me explore this whole new world of music that I was immersed in. I also had a new friend named Jack Antonoff, who was making artful music in his apartment. I had an idea for a new album called 1989. The music on the album would have synths from the 80s with a catchy chorus.

I had an indescribable belief that this was the right decision. I tried to make it happen with the image of a young girl wearing high heels and a crop top.

Looking back, there were so many things I didn’t know at that time, but it was actually good. This period of time gave me a sense of true youth, a desire to explore, and a sense of freedom that I had never had the chance to experience before. However, the mixture of naivety, desire, and freedom sometimes makes people tired. People will never be satisfied, there will always be something that makes them speak up, complain. I learned new lessons and paid the price for my mistakes. In the end, I tried to shake off the sadness in me.

I will always be incredibly grateful for how you loved and embraced this album. You were the ones who followed my creative choices and cheered on the experimental risks it took. You were the ones who heard the winks and humor in Blank Space, and maybe even sympathized with the pain behind the sarcasm. You were the ones who saw the seeds of allyship and support for equality in Welcome to New York.

You are the ones who understand the feelings of a girl who had no friends when she was young, perhaps she is compensating for her own wounds by hanging out with girls in adulthood. You are the ones who know that I reinvent myself for a million reasons, and one of them is to make you happy. You are the ones who give me the chance, allow me to change and freely reinvent myself.”
