Rugby is one of the more entertaining Olympic sports, and the closest fans will get to football until we get the sport for the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles. While rugby may have had some positive stories recently with Jason Kelce making an appearance, it has also had one player come under fire recently.

Olympic rugby athlete for Great Britain, Amy Wilson-Hardy, has reportedly been placed under investigation by the British Olympic Committee for a WhatsApp message that has some racist content.

The message under question was captured in a screenshot. It shows the 32-year-old rugby player wearing a black face mask while she is having a conversation with an unnamed person who replies, “Genuine chocolate face,” to which Wilson-Hardy responds with a controversial comment.

The screenshot was leaked on Instagram with a caption calling out the British rugby player’s comment: “A little blackface racism by @teamgb Rugby 7’s @amywilson.” The user then mocked the rugby player for her comments.

While the incident may still be under investigation, it doesn’t change the fact that Wilson-Hardy remains one of the longest-serving athletes on the squad. She made her debut with the Olympic team back in 2013.

Wilson-Hardy started in Monday night’s 7-17 loss to the United States; however, that is just one of the many games she has played with Great Britain. She notably represented Great Britain at the 2016 Olympics, where the team finished fourth.
