Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards has revealed why he does not want to be compared to Michael Jordan, who is regarded as one of the best basketball players of all-time, if not the greatest ever.

Edwards has drawn the comparisons throughout this season due to being the focal point of a team rising the ranks in the NBA, as well as his playing style.

Yet, Edwards wants to be remembered as his own individual, even if he is being brought up alongside a player of such high caliber.

Edwards is having the best season of his professional career since being selected No 1 overall by the Timberwolves in 2020.

He averaged 25.9 points per game in the regular season, with an increased scoring average of 32.3 in the playoffs. Minnesota has a 2-0 lead over the Denver Nuggets in their Western Conference Semifinal heading into Friday’s Game 3 in large part due to Edwards.

‘He’s one of one man,’ Edwards said of Jordan in an interview clip that aired on ‘Good Morning America’. ‘The greatest of all time for sure. I want (the comparisons) to stop.’

Then how does Edwards want to be talked about if the Jordan comparisons are out?

‘As Anthony Edwards, the first Anthony Edwards, not the next Michael Jordan,’ Edwards continued. ‘I want people to be like “This Anthony Edwards kid, he got his own style. He got a mix of Michael Jordan in him.”‘

‘But I got a trey-ball. I can shoot the 3,’ Edwards stated. ‘So I think that makes me a little different than Michael Jordan.’

Edwards is in the stretch run of his fourth NBA season and has made two NBA All-Star games in a row. He was also one of the dozen players selected to represent the United States at the 2024 Summer Olympics.

Edwards may not like the comparisons to Jordan, but it is a sign of where his basketball career is heading.
