NFL Media COO addresses potential conflict of interest between Tom Brady’s $375,000,000 FOX deal and pending Raiders minority ownership

Tom Brady will embark on a new chapter in his life after making a deal with Fox Sports to be their commentator. However, there have been a few murmurs around the league regarding the possible conflict of interest due to his impending Las Vegas Raiders ownership. Now, the NFL has come out to discuss this thorny issue.

Brady’s interest in being a minority owner of the Raiders popped up in 2023. But earlier this year, these rumors were confirmed that Brady, through his firm, would attain 7% ownership of the franchise, now based in Las Vegas. However, the former Patriots QB signed a 10-year deal worth $375 million with Fox Sports to be their commentator for NFL games.

Mark Maske from The Washington Post reported that several of the franchise’s owners have an issue with Brady taking up the commentator job while applying for ownership of a franchise. Maske wrote:

“Some NFL owners have concerns about Tom Brady’s access to teams’ practices and facilities as a Fox broadcaster if his deal for part-ownership of the Raiders is approved, sources have said.

“The question is whether the NFL would make a league-wide policy or leave it up to teams.”

Chief Operating Officer Hans Schroeder of the NFL had to step up to clear the air on the issue. As per Maske, Schroeder said:

“Right now, Tom’s not an owner of the Raiders.”

The NFL has given the green light for Tom Brady to continue his venture, however, they have placed a caveat since Brady will likely acquire the minority ownership rights for the Raiders.

Tom Brady is ready for the challenge

Fox Sports took Tom Brady by surprise when they announced that his first game as a commentator would be the Cowboys vs Bears. The seven-time Super Bowl winner considers the assignment a hard one, saying:

“Obviously having the Cowboys on is a huge draw. As America’s Team, that’s gonna get a little hard for me to say that all the time.”

The Cowboys will face off against the Bears on September 8 and NFL fans can view and listen to the brilliance of Brady once again.
