Travis Kelce may be one of the best offensive players in the NFL but, on Thursday night he was playing defense against trolls on X. The three-time Super Bowl-winning tight end first shared a post expressing his excitement for the Cleveland Guardians’ walk-off win against the New York Yankees in Game 3 of the ALCS.

“Playoff baseball baby!!! @CleGuardians have the city absolutely ROCKIN TONIGHT!! What a game!”-Kelce wrote

Travis Kelce then received backlash as many people on the social media platform questioned his allegiance to the Guardians. This comes after Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift attended Game 1 of the series on Monday night at Yankee Stadium. While the Ohio native insisted he was cheering for Cleveland, he was called out for not wearing any apparel to show his fandom.

“I’ve been a cleveland sports fan my entire life… Make it back to countless amount of games over the years both Guards and Cavs just to enjoy these memories with my friends and family, WIN OR LOSE!!… and I don’t wear Cleveland gear one time and all of a sudden I’m not a real fan?! Ask anybody that was in or around that suite on game 1 who I was cheering for, they’ll let you know I was there for the @CleGuardians”-Kelce wrote on X

Travis Kelce’s teammate, quarterback Patrick Mahomes, then jokingly replied to the post by showing his support for the Kansas City Royals. Mahomes is a minority owner in the Royals, who were knocked out by the Yankees in the ALDS.

Travis Kelce explained his feelings while watching Guardians at Yankee Stadium

On Wednesday’s episode of the “New Heights” podcast, Travis Kelce spoke to his older brother Jason Kelce about his experience at Game 1 of the ALCS. His night out with Taylor Swift and friends was shown throughout the broadcast, and the tight end told his brother that he had mixed feelings while cheering for Cleveland.

“The whole time, I’m just screaming. I’m in hostile territory because it’s the Bronx Bombers and I’m at the Yankees Stadium in the playoffs. I’m over here cheering for the Guards because I’m a Cleveland kid and I want to see Cleveland win a f—ing World Series.”

“It was mixed feelings because I was there trying to have some fun with Tay and everybody. All our friends came… We had an unbelievable crew with us and hanging with us. It was fun… Even though the Guards couldn’t pull it off,”-Kelce said (TS 14:38)

The Kansas City Chiefs tight end did express how exciting it was to watch a playoff game in the confines of Yankees Stadium.
