Travis Kelce’s philanthropic efforts have ensured that a long-time Kansas City resident will not be forced to leave the home she has called her own for an impressive 56 years.
The Kansas City Chiefs’ star tight end came to the rescue of Gloria White, a former athlete and elderly resident, through his charitable foundation, 87 & Running.
Upon learning of the dire state of White’s home, Kelce generously donated a substantial sum to Rebuilding Together Kansas City, a nonprofit organization dedicated to making essential repairs to homes in the Kansas City area.
Word of White’s plight reached Kelce through a family connection, as one of her relatives happened to be married to former Chiefs player Otis Taylor.
Upon contacting Rebuilding Together Kansas City, it became evident that White’s home required more than a few minor repairs.
The list of necessary improvements included fixing a sewage leak in the basement, repairing broken steps leading to the basement, installing a new roof, adding gutters, safety latches for doors, and addressing issues in the bathroom and kitchen.
Scott Hickox, the executive director of Rebuilding Together Kansas City, expressed his gratitude, stating, “For Travis to care enough and his foundation to care enough about his community and what’s happening in Kansas City, this meant the world he could partner with us.”
In total, over 16 repairs were performed on White’s home, ranging from a new hot water heater to a new screen for her front porch. These repairs have now made it possible for White to continue residing in the home she has cherished for over half a century.
Notably, she has utilized her home to benefit the community by welcoming children of all backgrounds into her backyard, serving as a mentor, and inspiring them to pursue their dreams.
Travis Kelce’s foundation, 87 & Running, was established in 2015 with a clear mission: to give back to the community where he plays football.
The foundation focuses on empowering underserved youth, mentoring them, and motivating them to explore and develop their abilities while imparting critical life skills.
Kelce’s commitment to his community shines through his actions, ensuring that individuals like Gloria White can continue to enjoy the security and comfort of their homes.
