Caitlin Clark is simply changing the WNBA for the better.

Last Sunday’s showdown between Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever and Angel Reese and the Chicago Sky was not only heavily discussed on social media, it was watched by millions.

During Wednesday’s episode of “The Herd” on Fox Sports 1, Colin Cowherd laid out the cold, hard facts about Clark and what she has been able to do so far in her rookie campaign.

“Caitlin Clark to some degree is saving the WNBA,” Cowherd said, explaining that the league has never been in a profitable state befre she was drafted and she is immensely helping due to her popularity.

“It is an incredibly harsh truth. This league was in some trouble. They weren’t making money, they were downsizing and arenas nobody’s watching the finals. And, it has been totally subsidized. Not sort of, kind of remotely. Totally subsidized by the NBA,” Cowherd added.

The FOX Sports personality added that the Caitlin Clark effect has the potential to speed things along for the league, which has had trouble keeping eyes attached to it in its 30 years of existence.

“This is the Caitlin Clark effect. She may not be good enough to be on the Olympic team, but she is easily the greatest player without even playing half a season. She is the greatest player for business in the history of the league. And it’s not close,” Cowherd noted.

The contest between Clark and Reese drew 2.25 million viewers on CBS, making it the most-watched WNBA game on any network in 23 years. This further proves the point of Colin Cowherd.

At its peak, the game had nearly 3 million viewers and increased 225% over the same programming window from last season. That is simply a huge number of people willing to watch women’s basketball on Father’s Day.

Caitlin Clark Is Already The Face of The WNBA

Caitlin Clark is already doing great things for the WNBA, and she is the leader of all the momentum the league has going for it.

Her team may have started out terribly, but it did not deter fans from tuning in to every game that she has played in so far.

With record attendance and viewership, the WNBA seems to have capitalized on the explosion of interest in women’s basketball, and Clark has everything to do with it.
