The Oaklands A’s are in organizational shambles as they are set to be relocated to a temporary stadium in Sacramento, California, before ultimately moving to their franchise’s 4th city, Las Vegas.
The aforementioned stat is a sad story but an MLB record nonetheless. However, not everything is looking down in Oakland, as one of their young pitchers, Mason Miller, has hit three digits on the radar gun.
Drafted in the third round of 2021 by the A’s, Miller has become the A’s closer. He’s recently been throwing bullets on the regular. His pitches have been hitting 100+ MPH, including a nearly 104 MPH fastball. Believe it or not, the Rangers hitter was able to get a bat on the ball.
As previously mentioned, the A’s closer was able to throw multiple 100-plus MPH fastballs on Thursday night, and it’s pretty impressive to watch. Just take a look at these monstrous pitches.
Miller Hits The Highest MPH On A Pitch This Season
According to MLB Pipeline, Miller’s pitches were the fastest of the season so far. The rookie’s pitch reached 103.7 MPH, and he reached 101 MPH on all nine throws.
The exact pitch stats show that two miles per hour are above 103 MPH at 103.7 and 103.3, respectively. There are also three more, all hitting at least 102 MPH with 102.2, 102.6, and a staggering 102.9.
Last season, Miller played in three games with the Oakland Athletics, pitching just over 33 innings, throwing 609 pitches, and obtaining 38 strikeouts. He also had a batting average of .203.
With the A’s organization in shambles, Miller looks to be a bright spot on a disappointing team. He seems poised to help the A’s see major success after their move to Vegas in 2028.
