An undefeated season for the Kansas City Chiefs is over after the team lost to the Buffalo Bills, but that does not worry Patrick Mahomes at all.
The 30-21 loss to the Buffalo Bills ended the chances of a perfect season.
Mahomes said afterward he hopes the loss will be “fuel” for the remainder of the season while sending out a frightening warning for the rest of the league going forward.
“It’s a good football team, so there’s nothing to hang your head on,” Patrick Mahomes said via Pro Football Talk. “We feel like we can play better, so we will get back to work and try to use this as a spark so that we can be a better football team in the end. The undefeated thing was cool, but that’s not our ultimate goal. … I’m hoping that it is a benefit.
“I’m not going to say I or we relaxed, but at the same time, I feel like we were just coming away with these wins at the end of the game. I think it’s going to spark us to have more urgency, especially at the start of football games, especially with the offense, and that comes from me and turning the ball over on the first drive. It’s something you can’t do in big games like this.”
Mahomes did not have the best game against the Bills, as he started with an interception on the first throw.
He finished with 196 passing yards, three touchdown passes, and two picks. It was his third such game with having more than one interception.
This time around, the team could not overcome his mistakes.
The Chiefs’ previous defeat came on Christmas Day 2023, when they lost to the Las Vegas Raiders.
An individual loss won’t alter the entire season for 9-1 Kansas City, but they are in no way able to relax, as the Buffalo Bills are right behind them, trying to secure the best record and home-field advantage throughout the playoffs.
Patrick Mahomes’ Play On The Field Means The Chiefs Are Entirely Beatable
The Chiefs are no longer undefeated after losing to the Bills on Sunday.
Despite their previous undefeated record, no one truly thought this team would go the entire year without losing.
It has a lot to do with the inconsistent play of Patrick Mahomes.
His play and persistence in turning the ball over means this team can be beaten when the lights get bright.
