Someone kept the receipts of NFL analysts criticizing Patrick Mahomes back in 2017 and put it all together into one juicy video.

As hard as it is to recall, Patrick Mahomes was not considered a sure thing heading into the 2017 NFL Draft. He was regarded as a boom-or-bust prospect, and many were stunned when the Kansas City Chiefs traded up to select him 10th overall despite the presence of Alex Smith.

Fast forward seven years later. Mahomes is now a three-time Super Bowl champion and SB MVP. Tomorrow, Mahomes and the Chiefs kick off their quest for a three-peat against the Baltimore Ravens at Arrowhead Stadium.

A viral video put together by the @playbook.sportz TikTok account has surfaced, displaying all of the harsh criticism and doubters of Patrick Mahomes back from 2017.

One analyst on ESPN “First Take” stated that Mahomes was “lacking fundamentals” and “immature.” The analyst called Mahomes “the anti-Alex Smith” and questioned what message it was sending to Chiefs players.

Another analyst said Mahomes has “bad footwork, no footwork” and expressed confusion over the Chiefs’ decision to trade up for the Texas Tech product then they already had Smith behind center.

It’s extra mind-boggling now to see the amount of draft busts that were selected of Patrick Mahomes in 2017: Mitch Trubisky No. 2 overall, Solomon Thomas (third), Leonard Fournette (fourth), Corey Davis (fifth) and John Ross (ninth).

Andy Reid and the Chiefs saw plenty in Mahomes that NFL scouts and prognosticators didn’t. Seven years later, Mahomes has long asserted himself has the face of the NFL.

Patrick Mahomes Is Challenging Tom Brady For GOAT Status

Mahomes is only about to enter his age-29 season, but it’s certainly not too early to start drawing up the greatest of all time (GOAT) comparisons. Like Tom Brady, Mahomes had three Super Bowl championships by his 28th birthday.

Throw in his individual skill set and out-of-this-world play (behind-the-back throws, no-look passes, etc.) also strengthen Mahomes’ chances of becoming the consensus NFL GOAT.
