WNBA rookies Caitlin Clark and Kate Martin are set to take on each other as the Indiana Fever will host the Las Vegas Aces tonight. Their game is the first of their back-to-back matchups, and also the last two games of the season between the two teams.

Clark and Martin were longtime teammates in Iowa. While the Fever rookie rose to the ranks of great college stars, the Aces rookie was behind her, always ready to support. But now, their teams will meet for a third time this season.

Before their clash, the former teammates shared a friendly hug and Clark even talked a bit of trash.

“Please guard me,” Clark told Martin. “When you get in, come guard me.”

The two rookies are having different types of seasons. Clark was the top pick of the 2024 WNBA Draft and has been a great talent for the Fever. Although she struggled early in the campaign, the star has settled in beautifully.

She’s already been selected in her first WNBA All-Star game, together with Angel Reese, another rookie All-Star. Clark has played 36 games, averaging 19.2 points, 5.8 rebounds and 8.5 assists. The Fever guard is the favorite to win the Rookie of the Year award, given how she has impressed the fans and critics with her play.

Martin, on the other hand, has had limited time on the court. She wasn’t highly drafted, as the defending champions picked her with their second-round pick. The former Iowa player has played 32 games but has only put up 2.5 points and 1.5 rebounds.

Despite the difference in how their careers started, they remain close friends.
