Buffalo Bills fans have seen enough of Patrick Mahomes beating their team. Mahomes got the better of them on three of the last four occasions. But yesterday’s loss stung the Bills Mafia a bit too much.

First of all, it was a home playoff game against the Mahomes, who have never played away at this stage. On top of that, quarterback Josh Allen won their last two meetings at Orchard Park. As expected, neither team was giving an inch to the other. A traditional dogfight until the final two minutes before the final whistle.

Bills placekicker Tyler Bass missed a field goal when the scores were 27-24 in favor of the Chiefs. The windy Buffalo weather did not help—shades of their Super Bowl XXV loss. With the win, Mahomes reached his sixth conference championship in six years since he became a starter for the Kansas City Chiefs.

As one can imagine, the Bills fans were unhappy with how the game ended. After doing a postgame interview with CBS’ Tracy Wolfson, the 28-year-old was jogging back to the tunnel. The camera captured several snowballs hurled at him from the stands, clearly in anger. Fortunately, none of them hit the Chiefs quarterback.

Patrick Mahomes enjoyed playing in Buffalo

The Meadowlands is always a hostile place for any franchise to travel and record a win, let alone a playoff victory. Barring the extreme weather, the Bills fans turned up even more, shouting at every catch and booing at every flag because they were facing Kansas City.

Despite the unwelcoming atmosphere inside and outside of the stadium, Mahomes had a blast playing in the midst of it. Great players come alive in these situations; they feed off the animosity of the opposition fans.

Mahomes, who had 17 completions for 215 yards and threw two touchdown passes, said:

This is a great environment. It really is.

He came to shut up all the chatter about him not playing any away post-season games. And he did just that.

Mahomes further added:

We were here to prove a point and show that we can play anywhere. We know we’re going to have a heck of a challenge this next week, but our guys are going to get ready to go out there and see what we can do. It was a team win, and that’s what you need in the playoffs.

The win set up a tie against the Baltimore Ravens. It will be another test for Mahomes because he now has to visit the fortress named M&T Bank Park in Baltimore.
