What should have been a pivotal offseason for Nika Muhl in Turkey ended in disaster. This is after the 23-year-old suffered what is suspected to be an ACL tear while playing with her new team in Europe, Beşiktaş.

A video of Muhl’s injury saw the former UConn star screaming in pain on the floor after twisting her left knee. Players on both teams were clearly distraught after the incident as Muhl’s screams pierced through the deafening silence in the arena.

Simply put, the injury did not look good, and it is probably safe to assume at this point that Muhl will require a lengthy rehab process before she is able to return to the court.

This heartbreaking injury news also came on the same day that Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark was named the 2024 WNBA Rookie of the Year. It’s not as if Muhl was in contention for the coveted title (she averaged just 3.6 minutes per game), but this just goes to show the stark difference in the respective career trajectories of these two former NCAA superstars.

Her current WNBA team, the Seattle Storm, took to X (formerly Twitter) to send a “get well soon” message for Muhl shortly after the injury news broke. Muhl will now likely head back to the United States where she will do everything she can to make her comeback for the Storm — whenever that ends up being.

A few hours after their message for their injured guard, the Storm decided to flex the fact that Muhl was named in the All-Leaguefits All-Rookie Team and First Team. The 6-foot guard was recognized as one of the best-dressed players in the entire league, which, for the Storm, was a feat worth posting about.

“best dressed rookie in the W and it’s not close 🕶️,” the team declared.

It’s not as if there’s no truth to this declaration. After all, Muhl is the first and only rookie to ever grace the Leaguefits First Team. More than a few fans, however, have called out the Storm for the bizarre timing of their post.

“Admin can’t read the room eh,” a comment read.

“This is not the time dawg,” said a fan.

“This is not the FLEX you think it is. Carry on,” noted a user.

“Bad timing for this!!” declared another.

“NOW IS NOT THE TIME,” reacted a user.

“This feels distasteful, idk 😕” a commenter said.

“She may be severely injured and they still using her for engagement farming… Shameless,” accused another.

Muhl’s injury, coupled with the fact that one of her biggest rivals in college was just named WNBA Rookie of the Year, meant for more than a few fans that the timing of the Storm’s post was just way off.

As one of the comments said, perhaps the team could have made a better effort in reading the room.
