Attorneys for Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Xavier Worthy have released a statement on his behalf following his arrest in Texas on Friday.

Worthy was, according to Williamson County records, booked for assault in the form of impeding breathing or circulation of a member of his family or household over the weekend.
His lawyers, Chip Lewis and Sam Bassett, have since revealed that his ex-girlfriend is the alleged victim.
According to the player’s legal representatives, Worthy had been asking the female to leave his home for two weeks after he caught her cheating. She is said to have refused to do so and “made a number of extortive efforts prior to resorting to this baseless allegation against Mr. Worthy.”

The attorneys also claim that the complainant destroyed one of the rooms in the house. Worthy is said to have been assaulted, too, with the woman accused of ripping out his hair and scratching his face.
The wideout told police he did not want to press charges at the time.
“We will continue to cooperate with Williamson County authorities as we have full faith their thorough investigation will support Mr. Worthy’s innocence,” the statement concludes.
