NFL fans are remembering one of the most jaw-dropping plays in league history following the tragic passing of Dallas Cowboys icon Larry Allen.

On Monday morning, the Cowboys announced that Larry Allen “suddenly” passed away on Sunday while his family was vacationing in Mexico at just 52 years of age. Allen is survived by his wife and three children.

Allen played for the Cowboys from 1994 to 2005 before spending his last two NFL seasons with the San Francisco 49ers. Allen won a Super Bowl 30 ring with the Cowboys in the 1995 season and earned 11 Pro Bowl selections to go along with six First-team All-Pro nods.

Renowned for his elite combination of size, speed and incredible athleticism, the 6-foot-3 and 325-pound offensive lineman was part of one of the NFL’s most incredible plays ever back in his 1994 rookie campaign.

In a 1994 game against the New Orleans Saints, Larry Allen introduced himself to the world by chasing down linebacker Darion Conner and tackling him to prevent a pick-six after the latter picked off Troy Aikman.

You cannot discuss the Mt. Rushmore of offensive linemen, guards especially, without bringing up the name of Larry Allen.

The Sonoma State product was a beast of a blocker for Emmitt Smith, who smashed every meaningful NFL rushing record in Dallas. Allen was also a pivotal pass protector for Troy Aikman, who might not have won that third Super Bowl in the ’95 season without Allen in front.

Allen was named to the 1990s and 2000s All-Decade Teams as well as the NFL’s 100th Anniversary All-Time Team. Throw in the Pro Bowl and First-team All-Pro nods, and there’s no questioning Allen’s place as one of the NFL’s all-time great linemen.
