Caitlin Clark had a monster game Sunday afternoon, scoring 17 points, dishing out 13 assists and grabbing six rebounds.

Ultimately though, Clark’s Indiana Fever team blew a 15-point second half lead and lost 88-87 to the Chicago Sky, snapping a four-game win streak.

As well as Clark played, and as much blame as head coach Christie Sides took for the loss, there were plenty of people who wanted the No. 1 overall pick to be a little more selfish down the stretch.

Clark took only three shots in the fourth quarter, and only one in the final 7:12. By deferring to her teammates, she earned her share of criticism.

“Angel Reese was a monster that game but god damn Clark needs to be shooting down the stretch. Just too quick to give it up and not be primary playmaker,” said Barstool Sports’ Dave Portnoy.

“Caitlin Clark has to shoot that last shot. That’s something that has to be learned over time. When to be Jason Kidd and when to be Kobe,” echoed BSO’s Robert Littal.

“Caitlin Clark needs to learn that she has to take those shots at the end of the game. She didn’t even look to shoot in that last possession,” chimed in VSin’s Greg Peterson.

“Why didn’t Caitlin Clark shoot that shot?” – every #WNBA show or podcast tomorrow,” a fourth person added.

“How does Caitlin Clark not shoot the three there? Passed up on a signature moment to hit a game winner over Reese,” a fifth person added.

Asked after the game about her lack of shots in the fourth quarter, Clark said she wouldn’t have done anything differently.

“I’m sure there was an opportunity or two to probably attempt another shot there at the end, but I trust my teammates,” Clark said. “Obviously, the 13 assists, that means my teammates scored off 13 of my passes. That’s a really great number. I’m going to give them the ball every time, give them an opportunity to score. I believe in them.”
